Cruise 2013 Trends
It is only six shows into the Resort 2013 season but already trends are starting to emerge. A common hemline here, a repeat theme there, and to get the news to you before the season hits so you can stock up is this helpful trend report. It is part one of a three part series breaking down the themes of the shows and cracking the code on some seemingly sporadic trends. I like to start with color but for this season I will start with the silhouette because they are so in sync with each other and that makes it an easy topic to cover first.
Sky High Hemlines
The hemlines on shorts, skirts, and dresses are all going up this season. Shorter is better and no one did it quite like the granddaddy of fashion Karl Lagerfeld at his Chanel Cruise 2013 collection which was shown in the gardens of Versailles and the whole collection was a smash up of club culture and eighteenth century royal dressing. The club element added to the short shorts and high hemlines of dresses but the long lean legs of the models were perfectly framed by chunky gold sneakers. Not all the collections focused on the thick soled shoes but many have increased the distance between the shoe and the hemline by about 20%. Perhaps it was all the legs that were flashed at the Oscars, and the Met but the trend is white hot and if you plan on wearing this trend, go the short route. So many designers are pumping out short shorts so far so there will be n problem finding them. Also shorts of the short inseam variety were popular during Spring Summer 2012 so you may even be able to get these on sale!
