Top Fashion Magazines for September 2012
When comparing fashion magazines and the success of their September issues, can you count the number of advertisements, or the number of dollars raised for those advertisement pages? The fact remains that Vogue is at the top of the game and as such, they have more ad pages than any other magazine in the business. But does that make them the ad revenue authority?
There are rumors that they have priced their ads at a 10% discount from previous years making their profit margin significantly smaller. But will that discount even make a dent in the fashion giants standings? Even with a 10% discount Vogue stands above the competition with a whopping 218 ad pages more than the second in line, InStyle.
The difference between Vogue and InStyle was more than the total ad pages of Allure, Lucky, and Glamour. That is a smash in the face and definitely worth mentioning since both Allure and Lucky were down from their years previous making their defeat all the sweeter for Condé Nast giant, Vogue.
As reported by NYMAG.com the top selling ad magazines are as follows:
Vogue: [Is it any surprise since Lady Gaga will be covering this issue?] 658 ad pages, up 13 percent from September 2011 (largest issue since 2008)
InStyle: [Jennifer Lopez has helped InStyle meet their goals this month] 440 ad pages, up 2.3 percent from September 2011 (according to the magazine’s spokeswoman, these are the “best numbers in the magazine’s 18-year-history”)
Elle: [This cover will feature Katy Perry… This is likely to promote her movie] 400 ad pages, up 14 percent from September 2011 (Hearst’s largest issue ever)
Harper’s Bazaar: [Gwen Stefani will be featured with her first band launch in a while] 360 ad pages, up 16.6 percent from September 2011
W: [Penelope Cruz is featured on the cover] 246 ad pages, down 4 percent from September 2011
Marie Claire: [Miley Cyrus is heading up this photo shoot which maybe why they are up such a high percentage in ad pages] 237 ad pages, up 23 percent from September 2011 (although these numbers are a bit skewed by the addition of the magazine’s new supplement, @Work, which accounts for 20 ad pages)
Glamour: [We will be seeing Mrs.Beckham in this cover] 205 ad pages, down 16 percent from September 2011
Lucky: 136 ad pages , down 26 percent from September 2011
Allure: 131 ad pages, up 14 percent from September 2011 (also largest issue since 2008)
Which magazines will you be picking up? P.S. Don’t ask me why NYMag included Marie Claire… I don’t know either.
