Okay contain myself. But the collections seriously made me wet!
Okay so Nicola Formichetti as many of you know has been designing for Thierry Mugler for just one year and he has shown one men’s collection and one women’s collection this being the women’s fashion collection. I will start this by describing the angle of his vision, it is dark and has a brooding sexiness that is seriously lacking in the fashion business. But unlike other darker lines Mugler was fun and the models made you aware of that, from their wild dancing and smiling faces.
Different from other reviews I am going to start with the styling. The hair was usually half up and soft in the front, or brushed forward and tight in the back. The Makeup was dark around the eyes and the cheeks and lips were soft. Now there were no bags but the shoes! Oh the Shoes! They were mostly either sky high heels or gravity defying heel-less wonders that rocked the audiences grasp on reality and some the models ability to walk in them.
Though Black was the major color there were pops of green, blue, and yellow throughout the fashion collection. The overall silhouettes were high shoulders, tight to the body aside from a loose upper arm that was enhanced even more by a few of the fur pieces and the plastic football gear type shoulder gear. The fabrics were mostly latex, rubber, sheer nylon, super shiny PVC, or hard plastic. Most of the models were bare chested and in some of the dresses the bare chest was the focus as the dresses were completely in one fabric but the chest was see through mesh.
The evening wear was more like Super edgy club wear with cheetah nylon bodysuits, ornate leather detailing amidst sleeves of fur, and hard edged plastic inserts on several shoulders and hips. The amount of latex used was really crazy and Lady Gaga’s first outfit was made completely of latex. With a long restrictive skirt all black so tight it looked poured on her fit frame and a latex bra covering only what needed to be covered she looked amazingly herself. Her long blond hair was in pigtails and went down to her thighs she whipped it furiously from underneath her black hat that took the focus off that diamond necklace she was wearing. The heeless shoes were incredibly made to support her as she danced and smoked down the runway stealing the show.
The finale of the show was a ‘white-out” of silk dresses and more nylon clad models. The work on the all lace all white nylon bodysuit is really remarkable creating clothing where there is only transparency and enhancing the slippery leather white hot pants underneath. I was reminded of Alexander McQueen when the football-like shoulder pads were used on the models, it was nice to see this kind of creativity used on a Ready to wear collection. And of course lastly… there was Lady Gaga once again.
The Mama Monster was wearing a gorgeous samurai hat and had on a white lace top that went overtop a beautiful corset and long white skirt. The real treat was the foot high boots that she wore with complete ease. Lady Gaga has obviously perfected the art of walking in these pieces of art as she is a huge fan of Noritaka Tatehanna who makes the incredible shoes she is most often seen in. It is a good thing that Gaga looked so damned good in the Mugler line as she bought the entire collection in every color. Lets see if we see it appear in her appearances down the road.
So… Did I like it? Does the Marquis of Fashion give the seal of approval to this Thierry Mugler Fall 2011 fashion collection? OF COURSE I DO! I loved every second of it and I will be watching it late into the wee hours of the night hoping Formichetti can keep this level of awesomeness going.
