What Will You Be Wearing This Valentine’s Day?
As social media grows, the years go on and people get older… Valentine’s Day is being pulled in two directions. Those of us who love love, love the idea of pushing love onto others and the shape of a heart brings joy to their very core. BUT, there are also those of us who despise the thought of Valentine’s Day, they loathe the false pretense that Hallmark has placed upon the English speaking world, and fight tooth and nail against the idea of spending butt loads of money on a dinner, flowers and chocolates that were half the price the week before.
But what is more interesting is that no one is on the fence with Valentine’s Day. Not one person I have spoken to is irreverent about, in regards to or in relation to Vday this year. There is a WAR going on and we’re, each of us, on the front lines of it.
For an admittedly corporate-y of corporate holidays that exists to make money on an emotion created by humans where you are not only encouraged but expected to show your Valentine how much you love them with acts of love (the popular ones involve dishing out mad cash (proposals, balloon rides, babies etc.)) or…
For an admittedly cynical group of generally heartbroken individuals on the brink of voluntarily banishing themselves from civilization threatening to switch their sexuality like it’s hardwired to a light switch and nothing… NOTHING infuriates them more than the color pink around, near or on February 14th. They also enjoy Buzzfeed tests about the level of hate they actually have for Valentine’s Day.
However, regardless of which side you stand, enjoying time with your partner or that special person you’re courting is what this day is all about. Do Not tell me you don’t like letting the person you care about know you care about them. One way to do this is to dress up. That’s right! Take a serious stand and dress the f*ck up.
I’m not talking full on tux but a jacket wouldn’t hurt. I decided on a purple (notice it’s not red… that would be just tacky) tux jacket and a nice pair of black jeans. Notice for styling purposes I also decided against a bow-tie.
Making a little extra effort goes a long way. Who knows you may even join the Pro-Valentine’s Day Regiment?
